Before any siding can be installed you must make sure the surface you are installing the James Hardie siding to has a house wrap (Tyvek or Typar) and each seam is tuck taped as well as any openings. The second stage is to ensure there is an air barrier between the surface and the siding which is done by installing wood strapping in accordance to Hardie regulations.
